HISTORICAL COMPARISON OF SYDNEY BETWEEN 1943 AND 2005
Using samples of the 1943 and the 2005 photography this page shows the changes that have occurred within the urban area of Sydney over a 61 year period.
The 1943 black and white imagery on our system is at a spatial resolution of 2 metres and was supplied courtesy of the NSW Road Traffic Authority. The 2005 colour imagery is at a spatial resolution of 15cm and was taken using modern cameras and film.
Note, that due to the cameras and photographic film used in 1943 not being as good as they are today, the quality of this imagery appears of a lower quality. Also, as not all the physical features that appear today where around in 1943, the technique for converting this film to accurate digital data has resulted in the spatial accuracy not being as good as the 2005 data. As a result in some areas the property boundaries do not fit as well as they do in the 2005 imagery.
Click on each image below to see a comparison of the full resolution of the digital image that is available from each era. Each image below covers the same area over 60 years apart.
